Session Description:

Introduction to 508 and Media Accessibility

Section 508 of the United States Rehabilitation Act of 1973 extends protections for individuals with disabilities.  Coupled with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 508 ensures Information and Communication Technology (ICT) are accessible to people with disabilities, including websites, software and documents, and media.  This session will introduce Section 508 and focus on accessibility for media commonly used in distance/remote education such as videoconferencing, live video streaming, and asynchronous video.  Includes time for questions and answers (please submit prepared questions in advance, if you have any).

Presenter:

Kathy Eng is a Senior ICT Accessibility Specialist with the US Access Board and has worked in the federal accessibility community for over 20 years. Her accessibility career began in assistive technology accommodations with just a sprinkle of Section 508 and has evolved to almost entirely focused on Section 508 in the last 10 years. Kathy collaborates on interagency Section 508 guidance and is the co-chair of the Best Practices subcommittee of the Federal CIO Accessibility Community of Practice.

Session Description:

This session will focus on the issue of support for contract (non-tenure/non-tenure track) faculty teaching in professional development programs. While these instructors are invaluable members of our program teams, they face a multitude of challenges due to our programs’ target audiences and delivery formats, and the often part-time nature of their employment.
